Grief Counseling

When an individual experiences grief from the loss of a loved one, there are a variety of emotions they can experience. From depression, to anxiety, tension, and irritability, people grieve with their loss in different ways. It is not uncommon for individuals to bury themselves in physical activity such as exercise, cleaning, dancing, etc. However, some individuals will also become withdrawn focusing on the memories of their loved ones, possibly reliving their time spent together leading up to the loss. An average, most people will grieve from anywhere from six to twenty four months, with the presence of pre-existing conditions of depression and anxiety prolonging these feelings. Grief counseling can help. Simply talking about the one we lost can help us understand our feelings. They may never come back, but we can learn to live life without them. Dr. Velez has experience with grief counseling helping people come to terms with their loss, and providing strategies and exercises to get them back to living again. If you are having a hard time dealing with the loss of a loved one, schedule an appointment to begin the healing process through grief counseling. The loved one can never be brought back, but there are ways to help you remember the good times your shared and enjoy the time you have left with your remaining loved ones.
