Psychological Evaluation

A psychological evaluation can occur when families need to get Legal Guardianship of either an elderly parent due to dementia or a mentally ill sibling. This is done through an attorney, but often requires a psychological evaluation by a licensed psychologist. A licensed psychologist is required because they are experts in this field. They have undergone the necessary training to assess, diagnose, and make legal recommendations to the court. The psychological evaluation uses approved testing and examination techniques to prove that either your parent, sibling, you, or another family member is unable to make decisions regarding their estate, or their healthcare. A psychological evaluation usually takes anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, but it is possible in some cases to take longer, or possible to happen over multiple sessions in rare cases. While this sometimes hard for the family, it is a process that is intended to ensure the safety and well being of both the individual and possibly those under their supervision. Dr. Jane Velez has been performing these evaluations for over 15 years in central Illinois and is ready to help your family. She is board certified, which means in the state of Illinois she is recognized as an expert and is qualified to make recommendations based on her psychological evaluations. If you are in need of a psychological evaluation, please contact Peoria Psychological Associates, or recommend this office to your current attorney. She is caring and experienced, and will provide an unbiased recommendation based on her trained analysis. It can be difficult for families to go to court to take custody or control of a loved ones accounts or estate, but it is better to take care of them, than to let them make decisions when they are unable to.
